My Freshman Year and The Mind at Work 2

This part of the reading of My Freshman Year I found very interesting. I never noticed it before, but as Americans we really don't go out of our way to learn about different cultures or introduce ourselves to different types of people. In highschool, I made really good friends with a German exchange student, but other than that I never made friends with any. I think they were fairly biased towards how American culture is, making it seem almost rude. I do agree with their viewpoint, and I think we have small talk with good intentions but I see how it can be taken differently by people of different cultures. In Mind at Work, I found it was a very different viewpoint then most have in waitress work. They went into detail about different parts of a restaurant and how it works all together to make a good steady running business. As a waitress myself, it was right on point in how difficult it can be to do so many tasks at once and stay organized in keeping things running smoothly. I found these readings to be very different and not share much in common to compare.
